Jack and the Beanstalk and Tithing

The story of Jack and the beanstalk centers around Jack, his widowed mother, their cow they used for milk, and some beans that was offered to jack in a trade for the cow.

On the surface we can say that Jack was pretty crazy to trade his cow for beans, but I would like to challenge that thought and say that Jack had bigger plans than anyone else could see. Jack and his mom were living off of the cow and its milk by selling the milk and probably the butter they could make. When the cow stopped producing milk, which really does happen and thus should not have been a surprise, Jack and his mom had to reconsider how they lived. Mom was trying to fix the short term situation, but I think Jack had a long term solution in mind.

Beans are two fold, you can eat them OR you can plant them to get more beans which you can in turn decide to eat them or plant them. Jack was  farmer and understood this principle. But why these beans versus selling the cow and using the money to buy other beans and maybe bringing something home to eat right now.

Risk.

He put his faith in a one time opportunity to fix his whole problem instead of going for the temporary fix of being hungry right now.

Magic Beans were not at the market and it was likely that you will not have been able to find them anywhere else. So Jack made a business decision to invest in a product that had the potential to settle his issues of lack forever.

Tithes are two fold, you can eat them OR you can plant them to get more tithes which you can in turn decide to eat them or plant them again. You have TEN tithes and God is asking you for ONE of them. So planting your seed brings forth a plant that provides for you more seeds and you can decide to eat them, or you can decide to plant them. The choice is yours.

It is no wonder that we can not beat God at giving, because the tree can always produce more of the fruit whereas the fruit is what you see and that’s all you get.

We are trying to get rich on seeds when what we need to do is plant them and grow some more.
